Osiri University has announced the appointment of renowned African scholar and public intellectual, P. L. O. Lumumba, to its Council of Elders (Board of Governors).
Prof. Lumumba joins a distinguished circle of global voices on the Council, including Mallence Bart-Williams, Chigozie Obioma, Helen S. Lanier Distinguished Professor at the University of Georgia, and Jose V. Pimienta-Bey, Cosby Jubilee Chair of Interracial Education and Justice at Berea.
This appointment marks a significant step in the university’s commitment to building a globally respected academic institution grounded in leadership, integrity, and African-inspired thinking.
Prof. Lumumba is widely known across Africa and beyond for his work as a legal scholar, anti-corruption advocate, and Pan-Africanist. Over the years, he has served in key national and academic roles, including Director of the Kenya School of Law and Director of the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission. He is also a respected global speaker on governance, leadership, and the future of Africa.
His addition to the Council of Elders brings experience and a strong voice aligned with Osiri University’s philosophical foundation, particularly its commitment to the Ubuntu principle, which emphasizes shared humanity, collective growth, and responsible leadership.
Speaking on the appointment, the Chancellor at Osiri University noted that Prof. Lumumba’s presence will help guide the institution as it continues to expand access to higher education through its tuition-free model and globally accessible programs.
“At a time when education must evolve to meet the realities of the world, we believe leadership matters,” the University stated. “Prof. Lumumba represents the kind of intellectual depth and moral clarity that aligns with our long-term vision.”
As Osiri University continues to grow, the Council of Elders plays a critical role in shaping its direction, ensuring that academic excellence is matched with purpose, values, and global relevance.
Prof. Lumumba’s appointment reflects the University’s broader mission: to develop leaders who are not only academically equipped, but also socially conscious and globally minded.
