Mentorship helps entrepreneurs avoid costly mistakes, uncover blind spots, and build smarter. Discover why deep roots matter in business – and how Lion’s Roar and Osiri University help you grow.
The Importance of Mentorship in Entrepreneurship
How many times have you heard someone say, “If only I had someone to guide me, I would have made a different choice”?
In life-and especially in business, mentorship matters. No one figures it all out alone. If you want to go far, get a mentor.
That doesn’t mean you won’t make mistakes. You will. But the right mentor helps you avoid many of them, see the bigger picture, and build something that lasts. A good mentor isn’t just someone who’s successful-they’re someone whose character, discipline, and integrity you can trust and learn from.
A Mentor Helps You See a Unique Perspective
A lot of people think mentorship is about being told what to do and how to do it. But real mentorship isn’t about receiving instructions. It’s about perspective.
Most entrepreneurs already have a vision. You’re not starting from scratch. What a mentor offers is the ability to help you see your blind spots, think more strategically, and make sharper decisions.
What Spear Grass Taught Me About Business
Early in my journey, a mentor told me something that stuck: “Build your business like spear grass.” She explained that spear grass grows a wide, deep root system before anything appears above ground. When it finally surfaces, it grows fast and holds strong—because it’s firmly rooted.
I didn’t follow that advice at first. My early businesses were focused on rapid growth—teams in multiple countries, money going out with little return. On the surface, it looked like success. But beneath, there was no foundation. Because there were no roots, the business couldn’t sustain itself.
Now, with my current venture, I’m doing things differently. I’m focused on building strong systems, networks, and a lasting foundation. The growth may not be visible yet—but the roots are taking hold. I finally feel like I’m building something real.
Jim Rohn: A Life Changed by Mentorship
One of my favorite motivational speakers, Jim Rohn, often spoke about the role mentorship played in transforming his life. In his twenties, Jim was broke and uncertain about his future until he met a mentor named Earl Shoaff.
Shoaff challenged Jim’s mindset. He taught him about discipline, value creation, and personal growth. That relationship turned a man with nothing but a suitcase of broken dreams into a global voice in business and personal development. Jim Rohn went on to mentor countless others including Tony Robbins.
That’s the power of the right mentor: they help you see a unique perspective and build smarter.
Mentorship Can Come From Many Places
Mentors aren’t always people you meet face-to-face. Sometimes, they show up in books, podcasts, or online platforms. I’ve learned so much from reading biographies of successful entrepreneurs because I want to understand the struggles, decisions, and mindset behind their achievements.
What I’ve discovered is that the journey is rarely easy. But when you’re surrounded by the right guidance, tools, and stories, you don’t have to walk it alone.
That’s why in partnership with Osiri University, I created this platform: to bring mentorship, knowledge, and community to those who need it most.
